Versie 22.04.2 van Linuxdistributie Ubuntu is uitgekomen, een versie die vijf jaar ondersteuning krijgt. Tweemaal per jaar verschijnt er een nieuwe versie en vormen het jaar en de maand van uitgave het versienummer. Deze versies worden negen maanden ondersteund. Eens in de twee jaar komt er een versie uit die niet negen maanden maar vijf jaar voorzien zal worden van updates. Versie 22.04 heeft codenaam Jammy Jellyfish meegekregen, draait op Linux Kernel 5.17 en gebruikt standaard Gnome 42 als de desktopomgeving. Meer informatie over deze release is bij Omg! Ubuntu te vinden en op onze eigen voorpagina. Versie 22.04.1 is de eerste update met een verzameling bugfixes en verbeteringen. Tevens is het nu mogelijk om een upgrade vanaf Ubuntu 20.04 LTS uit te voeren.
Ubuntu 22.04.2 LTS is now available
Serving as the second point release in the Ubuntu 22.04 LTS series, this update rolls together the many security patches, bug fixes, and software updates issued to the Jammy Jellyfish since the previous point release. More notably, Ubuntu 22.04.2 LTS intros a brand new hardware enablement stack (HWE) composed of a newer Linux kernel and updated Linux graphics drivers.
Whenever I write about a point release I like to reiterate their point: they’re not aimed at folks already using Ubuntu but rather those who want to. These periodically issued ISOs massively reduce the ‘update delta’ a user needs to download and install after installing their system anew. This is actually the first of two point releases planned this year. Ubuntu 22.04.3 is set to make an appearance in late summer and, as well as package updates issued between now and then, come with the Linux kernel used in the upcoming Ubuntu 23.04 release.
Ubuntu 22.04 LTS includes Linux kernel 5.19, Mesa 22.2.5 and libdrm 2.4.113. A swathe of packages updates are also bundled including GNOME Shell 42.5, LibreOffice 7.3.7.2, and Mozilla Firefox 110. You can view a full(er) list of changes made between Ubuntu 22.04.1 and Ubuntu 22.04.2 on the Ubuntu Discourse (though the page may or may not be updated when you read this). As a reminder, Ubuntu 22.04 LTS is supported until April 2027, with support beyond that provided through Ubuntu ESM and/or Ubuntu Pro.
